Hi, my name is Catriona Poulin, the daughter of Howie Poulin.

In July of 2012, my father was bit by a brown recluse spider, while working in the Bronx, New York.

His body had an adverse reaction to the venom, causing necrosis in a large area and a blood infection. He also experienced cardiac arrest three days into treatment.

Due to the severity of his reaction, he no longer has feeling in the affected leg, he has extreme pitting edema, chronic infections, extreme pain due to nerve damage and neuropathy, and as of recent, kidney failure.

Howard Poulin's End Stage

The kidney failure was a long term result of not only the toxins in his leg seeping into the rest of his body, but the years and years of antibiotics, medications and nerve blocks to relieve pain (over 80 blocks in total).

So, now we are actively in the process of him receiving a new kidney. During the recovery process, we will not only have to cover medical expenses, but we have many bills including a monthly mortgage that needs to be paid. That is why, as a family, we are humbled to have to ask for help to get by this next step in our lives. You will never meet a more proud and hard working man than my dad, so this was not an easy request.
