My son Milo was born on September 4, 2025, at Boston Children’s Hospital, arriving with a condition known as left congenital diaphragmatic hernia, in which a hole in his diaphragm allowed his organs to migrate into his chest, compressing his left lung and pushing his heart to the right.

Immediately after birth, he was intubated, placed on oxygen, and connected to ECMO, a heart/lung bypass machine to support his fragile body. Just hours later, while on ECMO, he suffered a stroke, the long-term effects of which remain uncertain. The following day, he underwent surgery to reposition his organs and repair the hole in his diaphragm.

Due to the risks associated with ECMO, Milo later developed another clot and began twice daily Lovenox injections to help reduce it. Now two months old, he has graduated from the NICU to inpatient care, marking an important step forward, though his journey is still far from over. As my first child, he is the most precious part of my life, and all I can do is hold onto hope that he will continue to grow into a strong, confident, and healthy boy with a bright future ahead.
